Managing dial restrictions with AT&T Collaborate

As an administrator for the AT&T Collaborate SM service, you can manage dial restrictions for your company, a site, or single users, depending on your permissions.

Company-level restrictions apply to all users throughout an organization unless you define site-specific or user-specific restrictions. The order of precedence starts with a user, then a site, and then the company.

Dial restrictions control what calls a user can make. For example, you might want to prevent users from making long distance and international calls. Or you might want to let users make local and long distance but not international calls.

Dial restrictions can be standard or custom:

  • Standard dial restrictions block users from making domestic, international, or operator-assisted and directory assistance calls. Use custom dial restrictions to limit certain types of inbound, outbound, or transferred calls.
  • Custom dial restrictions provide greater flexibility than standard dial restrictions. For example, standard dial restrictions would prevent all international calls, but, using custom dial restrictions, you could allow your sales team to call Canada and the United Kingdom but no other international locations.

You set custom dial restrictions at the company level and assign both custom and standard dial restrictions to users at the site level. You can also manage dial restrictions for individual users or a group of users at a specific site.

In this guide you’ll learn how to:

Manage standard dial restrictions for a site

Dial restrictions profiles

Dial restriction profiles define how outbound, inbound, and transferred calls are treated. To restrict calls based on a digit pattern, add criteria based on a digit pattern, decide what action results, and set the priority of the criteria. If you want the criteria to restrict calls only during defined schedules, select a time or holiday schedule from the dropdown lists. The default criteria defines the action that occurs for all calls that don’t match the criteria set here.

You can set call criteria for these actions:

  • Allow—Allow calls that meet the criteria.
  • Allow timed—End calls when the time allowed is reached (in seconds). The default is 0. Make sure to enter a new value or calls won’t connect.
  • Require access code—Require users to enter an access code when making calls that meet the criteria.
  • Block—Block calls that meet the criteria.
  • Transfer—Transfer calls that meet the criteria to the specified number.
  • Treatment—Play the selected system announcement when a user attempts to call a number that meets the criteria.

    • Enter a name and description for the custom dial restriction.
    • To use an attended transfer with calls, check Enable warm hand-off (attended transfers).
    • To add dial restriction criteria for inbound, outbound, or transferred calls, next to each call type, click Set up. The Add custom dial restrictions page for that call type appears.

  4. To delete a custom dial restriction:

    • Check the box for each custom dial restriction you want to delete, and then click Apply.

Manage custom digit patterns

You can define patterns using the following special characters in place of digits:

  • Use $ as a placeholder before or after the digits in a pattern. For example, $555 finds any number ending in 555; 555$ finds any number beginning with 555. You can use $ only once in the same pattern (for example, you can use $555 or 555$ but not $555$).
  • Use ? in place of any single number. For example, 5?5??????? finds every number with a 5 as the first and third digit.
  • Use brackets [ ] to specify more than 1 value for a specific digit. Separate consecutive values with a hyphen (-) and nonconsecutive digits with a comma (,). For example, 55[5-7,9]8675309 finds 5558675309, 5568675309, 5578675309, and 5598675309, but not 5588675309.

Digit patterns are strings of numbers that you want to manage. For example, you can define 5558675309 as a digit pattern and then create a custom dial restriction policy that allows or blocks calls made from this number.

  1. On the Custom dial restrictions page, in the Custom digit patterns section, click Edit. The Custom digit patterns page appears.
  2. To add a digit pattern, click Add digit pattern. The Add digit patterns page appears.
    • Enter a digit pattern name and description.
    • Enter the digit pattern, and then click Save.
  3. To change a digit pattern, click the plus sign to expand the pattern you want, and then click Edit.
    • Update the digit pattern name and description.
    • Update the digit pattern, and then click Save.
  4. To delete a digit pattern, click the plus sign to expand the pattern you want, and then click Delete. In the message that appears, click Continue.
