Intercom feature Overview with AT&T Office@Hand+

The AT&T Office@Hand Intercom feature allows hands-free peer-to-peer conversations between users on desk phones that support the feature. It enables you to call an individual extension and the destination phone automatically answers the call in speakerphone mode. This feature is useful for announcing parked calls, notifying of visitors, and engaging in hands-free communications with colleagues.

Note: Intercom is disabled by default and an Intercom-capable phone is required to use this feature.

Configuring your Intercom settings (User)

  1. Log in to your Office@Hand account.
  2. Click Settings, then click Phones & Numbers.
  3. Go to the Phones and click Intercom.
  4. Set Phone permitted to accept intercom calls: to On. Select the device where you want to accept Intercom calls.
  5. Click the Users tab. You will see a list of Users. Select by clicking the check boxes of the Users that will be permitted to make intercom calls to you. click Save.

Configuring another user’s Intercom settings (Administrator)

  1. Log in to your Office@Hand account.
  2. Click the Users tab, and then go to the User list. Under the Users with Extensions, click the name of the user that you want to modify.
  3. Click Phones & Numbers.
  4. Go to the phones and click Intercom.
  5. Set Phone permitted to accept intercom calls: to On. Select the device where you want to accept Intercom calls.
  6. Allow other Users to make Intercom calls to your extension by selecting their names under the Users tab, and then click Save.

  2. How do I initiate an Intercom call?
    Using Intercom on an AT&T Office@Hand provisioned Desk phone

    • Press the Intercom soft key.
    • A voice prompt will state “Please enter the extension you wish to intercom followed the by the pound sign. Enter the Extension Number of the User that you wish to Intercom, and then press the Hash key (#).
    • When you enter the extension and press the hash key (#), you and the recipient will hear a beep and then you may begin speaking.
    • Just hang up when you’re done conversing.
      Using Intercom on the AT&T Office@Hand Desktop app, Mobile app, and Conference phones
    • Press *85.
    • You will then hear the prompt “Please enter the extension you wish to Intercom followed by the pound sign”. Enter the Extension Number of the User that you wish to Intercom, and then press the Hash key (#).
    • When you enter the extension and press the hash key (#), you and the recipient will hear a beep and then you may begin speaking.
      Just hang up when you’re done conversing.
  3. When does the Intercom soft key appear on a Desk phone?
    Once an account is signed up and phones are provisioned and assigned to Users, the Intercom soft key will appear on the compatible phones.
  4. Can the AT&T Office@Hand Desktop app and Mobile app initiate and receive Intercom calls?
    The AT&T Office@Hand Desktop app and Mobile app does not have an Intercom soft key but can still initiate an Intercom call by dialing *85. The AT&T Office@Hand Desktop app and Mobile app CAN NOT RECEIVE Intercom calls.
  5. Can multiple desk phones for single user be setup to receive Intercom?
    No. Only one desk phone per user can be assigned to receive Intercom.
  6. Is there a limit to the duration of an Intercom call?
    Yes. Intercom has a limit of three (3) hours.
  7. Do Intercom calls appear in call logs?
    Yes, Intercom calls appear in call logs but will not display the destination user info. It will only show the number of user who initiated the intercom.
  8. What is the difference between Intercom and Paging?
    Intercom is peer-to-peer, two-way communication between two (2) devices or users. Paging is one-way broadcast to single or multiple devices or users.
